But I started this blog to share the bad and the good, the failures and successes. so here I am doing just that.
I want to tell you my BIG mistake when building subscriber lists so you can avoid doing the same thing.I want to tell you my BIG mistake when building subscriber lists so you can avoid doing the same thing. #emailmarketing #listbuilding #makemoneyonline Click To Tweet
A little background
This week I started to participate in the Big Tribe Challenge.
Well its always important to keep learning and challenging yourself to get better each and every day.
I have spoken about this before in previous posts
The challenge is focused on helping marketers build their subscriber list, or so I thought.
Happily, I was wrong.
Thinking back I should not be surprised at what I realized on day 3 if the challenge.
I have been told this before, clearly, my ears were painted on!
So what have I learned?
The simple truth is I have not built a tribe I have built a list.
What wait, sorry I don’t quite get that.
You see I have spent my time and my money recruiting people to my email lists not caring if they fit the ideal customer persona for my business.
You see I worked hard to develop this ideal customer, right down to giving them a name and describing their family.
Then I completely ignored it, stupid right.
Why is knowing your ideal customer important?
Knowing your ideal customer defines your marketing message, what you say, how you say it and defining what the customer values so you can meet that need.
In short, it drives everything you do – lead magnets, email follow up, content creation, etc.
Its time to build a tribe, not just a list of subscribers and avoid this mistake when building a subscriber list.
So what is a tribe?
A tribe is a group of like-minded people who are seeking the same thing.
And our job as online marketers and business owners is to turn them into raving fans by providing value, based on their point of view.
If we do that then making money from our tribes becomes easier, a part of the process, rather than a distinct act of selling.
What you should take away from this.
Here is what you need to do to avoid this mistake when building a subscriber list
- What’s your tribe – be specific
- Create a customer persona for your ideal client /customer
- Define what they value and their needs
- Develop a marketing strategy based on what the customer values.
